This is an illustration I created for Switchfoot’s first single from their new, unreleased record Hello Hurricane. “Mess of Me,” the song, is a vivacious anthem in which the band asserts that to truly live we must first overcome ourselves. Jon Foreman, the lead singer, cries out that “There ain’t no drug to make me well / [because] the sickness is myself” and that “I want to live the rest of my life alive!”
In an attempt to capture this energy, I created a grunge-style image with earthy, complementary colors. I submitted the final product to the largest Switchfoot fan website, the Land of Broken Hearts, and was featured as “Graphic of the Week” on Sunday, August 9. The author of the column had this to say about the graphic:
“And last on today’s agenda, but certainly not least, is our choice graphic by Kevin. He made this really awesome wallpaper...Check it out to see its brilliance!”
