Filmmaking is storytelling, plain and simple. Often producers of movies, television, music videos, and even commercials get lost in achieving an effect and make the fatal mistake of neglecting story. However, story is the most important component of a well-planned film, and the tragedy of modern film is that it is frequently overlooked or underdeveloped. I believe that it is essential as a director, actor, editor, cinematographer, or special effect artist or any other part of a production, to perform one’s role in service of the story – not to achieve “the effect.”
